14-Year-Old Girl, School Bus Driver Killed In Multi-Vehicle Crash On I-79, Coroner Says

A 14-year-old girl and a school bus driver died in a multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 79 Tuesday afternoon, according to the Butler County coroner’s office.

The school bus hit the back of a tractor-trailer while traveling north on I-19 near the Route 422 interchange, as reported by WPXI.

The multi-vehicle crash happened between Exit 96: PA 488 - PORTERSVILLE/PROSPECT and Exit 105: PA 108 - SLIPPERY ROCK, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Emergency medical services were called to the scene just after 5 p.m., according to numerous broadcast news reports and as seen on PennDOT's 511pa.

The bus was coming from Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Beaver County, according to the report by WPXI.

At least two students were flown from the scene, and several students were taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Uninjured students were released to their guardians, police say.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt according to police.

The lead PSP investigator remained on the scene until around 4 a.m., police told Daily Voice.
